Touring Lighthouses in Michigan

Michigan has many lighthouses that stand proudly and reflect the shipping history of the Great Lakes on Lakes Michigan, Superior, and Huron. Some of the lighthouses are still working. Visiting the lighthouses is a special way to enjoy a vacation for the entire family. Most lighthouses in Michigan are accessible by land; however, a few require visiting by boat or plane. Driving or bicycling tours along the Michigan scenic shoreline byways is an excellent way to view the lighthouses and revisit Michigan history. Along the way to the lighthouses, the children can visit amusement parks, like Michigan's Adventure in Muskegon, or families can camp at the state or national parks, forests, and lakeshores. Adults might enjoy combining a driving or bicycling lighthouse tour with winery tours and staying at bed and breakfasts along the way. After visiting the Michigan lighthouses go to Wisconsin, Illinois, and Ontario to continue the beautiful journey.
