SCENIC DRIVING TOURS
Michigan, the Great Lakes State, is the perfect state for a road trip. Michiganders and visitors to the State can drive around Lakes Superior, Michigan, Ontario and Huron shorelines-see Circle Tours to the right. They also can go on specialty tours fishing, wine tasting, camping, gaming, or cruising. Michigan tourists also enjoy driving to its beautiful vacation destinations for sailing, boating, bicycling, paddling, camping, or hiking. Because Michiganders live on the average no more than six miles from water with some of the best beaches in the country, incredible vacations are only a short drive from home.
Additionally, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, New York, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, and Ontario are within a day's drive from Michigan and make wonderful road trip vacations. See Road Trips at our companion site TravelUSAOnline.com.
Car Cruising
Michigan is famous for its car cruising—cruising with antique cars, hot rods, sports cars, or muscle cars. From St. Ignace to Detroit, cruising is a Michigan past-time. Car enthusiasts love to show off their hard work. Whether their cars are ’57 Chevies, ’62 Porsches, or Model Ts, the drivers line up and slowly cruise the streets or whiz through the country sides or open hoods to display their shiny chrome engines. The Woodward Avenue Dream Cruise is the largest in Michigan, drawing over 40,000 incredible cars and 1,700,000 spectators. Although the Woodward Avenue Dream cruise lasts only a day, the festivities before the cruises are not to be missed with cars lined up for inspection and parties happening on every corner. From Pontiac to Detroit, all the cities and their residents become part of the cruise.
For beautiful rolling terrain and smooth highways during almost every season, car cruisers should drive to Leelanau County to visit Sleeping Bear Dunes before going on to Mackinaw City to park the car and catch a ferry to Mackinac Island from May to October.
A traditional Lower Peninsula car cruise is a leisurely drive to Frankenmuth for a “world famous chicken dinner” or some fabulous shopping.
